The big spring movie is “42,” the story of Jackie Robinson’s breakthrough 1947 season with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball and paved the way for the civil rights movement over the next two decades.  The movie focuses on about 18 months of his life.  For the full story, Vanguard professor John Wilson has written “Jackie Robinson and the American Dilemma” (Longman’s, 2010).  A brief, accessible survey of Robinson’s life designed as collateral reading in college courses, the book emphasizes the impact of Robinson’s Christian beliefs on the “great experiment” and its success. If the movie piques your interest, check out the whole story!Jackie Robinson
